Lunar Racing's rolling road is a 2WD Hofmann Dynatest system. It has been modified to provide greater control of high power outputs and more accurate RPM stability for ECU mapping purposes. This is coupled to the latest TAT data logging software to monitor and record the following:

Power
Torque
Engine RPM
Road Speed
Boost Pressure
Air Intake Temperature
Air/Fuel Ratio

We can also monitor and log your vehicles ECU data whilst on the rolling road through the OBD socket (later cars only) this is especially useful during fault diagnostics. This data can then be plotted for further analysis or compared to other runs to assist us when making adjustments to the engine. These graphs can also be printed for you to keep.

Our rolling road is suitable for front or rear wheel drive cars and can handle up to 535 BHP at the wheels. This equates to approx 650 BHP at the flywheel.

We use the rolling road in 2 main modes:

The acceleration mode is used during power runs. This allows us to set the acceleration rate to suit your vehicles power output to produce repeatable power curves. The data logger will record 10 times per second during the run and then measure the tyre and transmission power losses during the coastdown. From this data the software will calculate the flywheel power/torque output from the wheel figures logged during the run.

The steady state mode is used mainly during ECU mapping. The engine can be held at any RPM regardless of load. This allows us to map all load sites within your ECU at a fixed RPM before moving on to the next speed site. This produces very accurate engine set-up. This mode is also used to find faults at a particular RPM. We can even check if your speedo tells the truth!

We can carry out the mapping of many aftermarket ECU makes including Emerald, DTA, Omex, Hondata, Canems and Motec. Please contact us for further details.

Our in-house tuner, Chris Rapps, has over a decade’s experience of building and tuning high performance engines. He has been involved in many forms of motor racing from club level to F1 to drag racing and holds a degree in motorsport engineering. Chris has been using rolling road dyno’s for many years and has tuned all sorts of weird and wonderful vehicles in his time. He has a huge database of knowledge gained through working for many prestigious companies including Cosworth.

To save time when you visit us:

  • Check for correct oil and coolant levels.
  • Check there are no oil or coolant leaks—Very important!!!!
  • Check tyres for correct pressure and condition.
  • Make sure you fill up with fuel!!!!
  • We monitor the Air/Fuel ratio using a wide band lambda sensor—not suitable for leaded fuels.
